Celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride Month

A great way to celebrate and acknowledge LGBTQ+ Pride Month is by reading literature with meaningful and diverse representation of LGBTQ+ people. The scope of representing the entirety of LGBTQ+ diversity is too large to fit into four suggestions, but we chose books that feature stories of different LGBTQ+ people of different ethnic and racial backgrounds, contain affirming and supporting messaging, and have positive relationships. Stories that feature this important representation are supportive of youth and families who identify with the stories, or they act as windows into identities and experiences different from your own.

We hope you can either check these stories out from our school libraries or purchase them and add them to your own library. Diversifying our libraries and literature is important when we are learning about the world we live in, where we come from, and the different people and cultures we will interact with.

Happy reading!
